Director Susindran was pretty overconfident that Naan Mahan Alla would be an exceptional flick focalizing on rapid rise of crime rates in Chennai. But, what should have been a crime thriller turns into sluggish drama with predictable narration. Hero’s act of seeking vengeances and settling scores with baddies has been the most common stories in Kollywood. In all likelihood, Naan Mahan Alla carries such hackneyed plot and offers nothing special to the audiences.


The film revolves around Jeeva (Karthi), a freewheeling guy with no worries in life. His family members and friends keep him invigorated over the times. Jeeva comes across the gorgeous Priya (Kajal Aggarwal) and falls in love at first sight and indeed impresses her. When everything is set to go on paths of happiness, Jeeva’s life is turned upside down when his father (Jayaprakash) is stabbed to death by group of strangers. What follows next is Jeeva’s mission of trapping the goons, who were responsible not alone for his father’s death, but are serial killers.


The complete first hour (80mins) has nothing to do with the journey as Susindran established the conflict merely at the point of intermission. It looks like the filmmaker wanted to keep the first half with fun, frolic and romance and the latter half with complete contrast. For sure, audiences would feel like watching two different movies due to lack of relevance. The major drawback of the film is Susindran’s amateur way of handling certain sequences. Chennai’s most raucous roughneck and his henchmen killed by youngsters are unbelievable. Maybe, they’re serial killers, but that doesn’t mean they can bump off the most dangerous hooligans just like that.

Having shot the complete film in Chennai, Susindran should have made sure there are continuities between locations in the same sequences. Watch out for the scene where Karthi chases one of the culprits. The chase starts across the lanes of housing boards near Chetpet Railway Station and ends at Perambur Railway Station (The station name can be spotted). Often showing Karthi smiling at kids is unwanted. Director Susindran established the protagonist’s kind-heartedness of buying chocolates for loan borrowers’ kid. This was more than enough to delineate him.

Looks like Karthi is slightly getting out of his Paruthiveeran effects as he tries to emote in a different style when compared to his previous films. The actor showcases an overpowering performance during the second half. On pars, he gets along well with comical sequences. Kajal Aggarwal’s characterization doesn’t boast of specialties as she plays the usual girl-to-next-door roles. Her onscreen chemistry with Karthi is extraordinary. The actress can try for some challenging roles as she possesses the talent to perform them. Jayaprakash as Karthi’s father does an excellent job. The 4 youngsters enacting the role of baddies have done a marvelous job.

Technically, the background score by Yuvan Shankar Raja is magnificent and the song ‘Iragai Pole’ is a foot-tapping number. Mathi’s cinematography is okay as he doesn’t try for innovative placements. His picturing style of songs and climax fight sequence is over the top. Editing by Kasi Viswanathan is perfect.

Basically, if you’re expecting Naan Mahan Alla to be a serious movie with a strong storyline, you’re sure to get disappointed. It’s a time worn of script of hero putting an end to villains. The film can be watched once and it’s just an average show with few violence sequences harshly shown.

When compared to his previous films Paruthiveeran and Aayirathil Oruvan, the actor fails to get himself over the top. Karthi has to keep himself cognizant over choosing some good scripts. Having delivered a commendable showpiece Vennila Kabadi Kulu, Susindran bashes down our hopes with a flimsy tale.

Verdict: Passable film. Can be watched once.

NaanMahan Alla hitting the screens today

Much eagerly waited day of Karthi as well as his fans comes today. His most anticipated ‘Naan Mahaan Alla’ is hitting the big screens today with much hype.The movie is directed by Suseendran and is produced by Studio Green and Cloud Nine Movies. Kajal is playing the love of Karthi in the film.

Director on speaking about the story line said “NMA is a slice of our life in a big city. Karthi plays a happy-go-lucky, middle-class guy, whose life takes a dramatic turn after a particular incident in his life. I chose Karthi because he has a very innocent face and one can easily relate to him. This is a character Karthi has not attempted before and he’s done a fabulous job of it. Jayaprakash of Pasanga fame plays his father and the scenes with Karthi and Jayaprakash are a treat. It’s a stylish yet realistic film.”

The latest news is that the movie is said to be a thriller and is set in the backdrop of North Chennai. It will be having no single fight till the climax.

Let’s wish the movie will give success to both Karthi and Kajal.

Karthi score a hat trick?

Karthi's Naan Mahaan Alla (NMA), gets ready for release this Friday (August 20). The film is opening across fifteen screens in Chennai. This shows Karthi's growing importance as a star.

Karthi is the star of 2010. He had back to back hits, Selvaraghavan’s Aayirathil Oruvan and Paiyaa, a super hit that established him as a star. Now all eyes are on NMA, as the trade is predicting that it will be a hat trick hit for the actor.

NMA has everything going for it, and cannot fail. Suseenthiran impressed everybody with his story telling methods in Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu, and the buzz on his latest urban story is very positive. Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music from the film has been topping the charts, till Enthiran came along.

But the clinching factor is that NMA made by Studio Green is being marketed by Dhyanidhi Alagiri and his Cloud Nine. They have got over 200 of the best screens in Tamil Nadu, which is giving the film prime placement. More important is that there is no real competition to the film for the next four weeks till Enthiran releases.

No Fight Naan Mahaan Alla till climax

All are eagerly waiting for the release day of Karthi and Kajal starrer ‘Naan Mahaan Alla’. The movie which is going to hit the big screens on this 20^th will be having its ticket bookings from tomorrow. The movie is directed by Suseendran and is produced by Studio Green and Cloud Nine Movies.

The latest and interesting news revealed about the film is that the movie is said to be a thriller and is set in the backdrop of North Chennai. It will be having no single fight till the climax.

Sources say “Suseendran has ensured that there are no stunt sequences just as the protagonist comes across the baddie.”

“At the same time, there will no be lag in the screenplay and the film will be racy from the word go,” they say and add: “the essential twist comes during the interval which would leave the audience in awe.”

Sources also added that Kajal has equally done with the performance of Karthi in the film and she will surely become a most happening actress in kollywood after the film release.

Naan Mahaan Alla to Release on August 20

Karthi’s Naan Mahaan Alla, is all set to be released on August 20th. Naan Mahaan Alla is being distributed by Cloud Nine Movies and produced by Gnanavel Raja.

Director Sussendran is upbeat about Naan Mahaan Alla and says that it will be another feather on Karthi’s cap. Kajal Agarwal plays the female lead in this film. Yuvan Shankar Raja has scored the music for Naan Mahan Alla.

Karthi’s ‘Naan Mahaan Alla’ release date postponed!

Earlier it was said that young and handsome hero Karthi’s latest forthcoming flick ‘Naan Mahaan Alla’ hitting the big screens on August 13th.But now, it is said that the release date has been postponed and confirmed to release it on August 20th.

The movie is directed by Suseendran of the ‘Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu’ fame and produced by K.E Gnyanavel Rajan of Studio Green Films in association with S.R. Prakash Babu and S.R. Prabhu. Kajal Agarwaal is playing the lady love of Karthi in this film. Yuvan Shankar Raja has composed the music.

The movie is all about a happy and lucky youngster enjoying his life to the extreme ends without knowing about the unpredicted havoc looked for on his way.

‘Naan Mahaan Alla’ songs and trailer from tomorrow!

Young Actor Karthi and beautiful actress Kajl Agarwal starrer latest upcoming film ‘Naan Mahaan Alla’ audio and the trailer will be out tomorrow at the Satyam Complex in Chennai.

The celebrities such as Rama Narayanan, Abirami Ramanathan, R K Selvamani, Boopathi Pandian, S, Ezhil, Sabapathy Krishnamoorthy and Devi Sri Prasad are likely to attend the music launch event tomorrow. The film lead pair Karthi and Kajal are also expected to participate in the function. The audio will be released by the director Hari and will be received by Lingusamy whereas the trailer will be released by Vettrimaran and received by Vishnuvardhan.

NMA is directed by Suseendran of ‘Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu’ fame and produced by K.E Gnanavel Rajan of Studio Green for Cloud Nine Movies. The film has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

Naan Mahaan Alla - Will be stylish as well as realistic

Karthi is one of the hottest stars of this year with three consecutive hit films. This year he had the first super hit ‘Paiyaa’ publicising his ability. ‘Naan Mahaan Alla’ is his fourth film. The title has reused taken an old Rajinikanth film released in 1984. That had Rajini and Radha and this new film has Karthi and Kajal Agarwal. The similarities end there. The story of Karthi’s ‘Naan Mahaan Alla’ has no resemblance to the super star film. While that was a story of lawyer who becomes the nemesis of the villains, the new film is all about a wishful romantic.
‘Naan Mahaan Alla’ directed by Suseendran of ‘Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu’ fame. This is a different film for the director as his first film was set in a village backdrop and ‘Naan Mahaan Alla’ is a city-centric flick. This film is produced by K.E Gnanavel Rajan of Studio Green Films in collaboration with S.R. Prakash Babu and S.R. Prabhu. Studio Green is the banner which gave riveting films like ‘Sillunu Oru Kadhal’ and ‘Paruthi Veeran’.
The heart of the film is about the bonding of a serious father and a romantic son, laced with the criminal backdrops of Chennai. Karthi plays the role of Jeeva, a typical middle-class Chennai youngster with a devil-may-care attitude, who is drawn into the world of crime and criminals after a particular incident changes his life. Jayaprakash after his superb performances in ‘Pasanga’ and ‘Naadodigal’, plays the role of Karthi’s father.
The hottie in Telugu after the blockbuster ‘Magadheera’, Kajal Agarwal is the heroine of the film. In Tamil, she was last seen in Saran’s ‘Modhi Vilayadu’. Her character in ‘Naan Mahaan Alla’ is cute and bubbly, something on the lines of what Asin played in ‘Ghajini’, says the director.
This film will be an extension of Karthi’s image in ‘Paiyaa’. According to the director Suseendran Karthi’s role in this film is almost the same as senior Karthik’s role in Mani Ratnam's ‘Mouna Raagam’. This film will showcase another romantic side of Karthi ala Paiyaa, sources say.
A combination that made ‘Paiyaa’ a success, music director Yuvan Shankar Raja and cinematographer Mathi are back together in this film. Songwriters are Na. Muthukumar, Yugabharathy and Francis while Bhaskar Sakthi has penned dialogues. Rajeevan is in charge of the art department.
Director Suseendran assures that ‘Naan Mahaan Alla’ contains 100% entertainment factors with the right mix of comedy, romance, action and sentiments. Karthi had said,” When director Suseendran was narrating the first half of the story I was laughing. I asked him whether I would be suitable for the role of an ordinary middle income youth. He said I will fit the role. For the first time I rehearsed for this film. I rehearsed for one week.”
Now that the film is taken over by Dhayanidhi Alagiri’s Cloud Nine Movies, it will leave no stone unturned to reach the masses in every nook and corner.
‘Naan Mahaan Alla’ will be stylish as well as realistic. The film which started in September 2009 has been scheduled for release in August 2010.

Naan Mahaan Alla coming on July 23?

Here is good news for all Karthi fans! The actor's upcoming Naan Mahaan Alla will reportedly grace theatres on July 23, 2010. Naan Mahan Alla, directed by Suseendran of Vennila Kabaddi Kuzhu fame, is expected to showcase the romantic side of Karthi in a script designed by Suseendran and backed by the music of Yuvanshankar Raja. And for the first time in their careers, Tollywood sensation Kajal Aggarwal will team up with Karthi in this film. Durai Dhayanidhi's Cloud Nine Movies has acquired the release rights of this film.

“After three hits I wanted to be careful about my next, till I listened to Suseendran’s script, which had an inspiring protagonist. That’s how Naan Mahaan Alla (NMA) happened,” Karthi said at the recent press meet.

“I play Jeeva, an unassuming, middle-class city boy who sees life from a positive perspective. It’s a lively character. The core of the story is about how a certain incident drags him into committing a crime. There are hardly any dialogues in the second half, where music and emotions dominate. It’s a bit like Suseendran’s earlier hit, Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu.” he added.

“The movie belongs to Karthi. In contrast to his suave, stylish look in Paiyaa, here he plays a local Chennai boy. Karthi adapted himself beautifully to the new character in every possible way, whether it was body language, looks or diction. The combo of Yuvan and Karthi has always worked wonders at the box office and this project is no exception. Yuvan’s music is a big plus,” director Suseendran said.

Reportedly, the film will be dubbed and released in Telugu simultaneously. The film is produced by Gnanavel Raja and Madhie handles the camera.
